Infinitives vs. Gerunds
Do you say «I enjoy to swim» or «I enjoy swimming«? Verb patterns can be tricky, but today you will master them.
We will learn which verbs require an -ing form and which ones need a to + verb structure.

Gerunds (-ing)
We use the Gerund form after specific verbs that usually express a feeling or a finished action.
Verbs + Gerund:
Enjoy, Finish, Avoid, Imagine, Keep, Suggest, Mind.
Example: «I really enjoy reading books at night.»
Example: «She finished doing her homework.»
Infinitives (to + verb)
We use the Infinitive form after verbs that often refer to future plans, choices, or intentions.
Verbs + Infinitive:
Want, Hope, Decide, Plan, Forget, Promise, Agree.
Example: «I want to travel to Japan next year.»
Example: «He decided to quit his job.»
